The view from the beach of Ometepe Island, Nicaragua
I’ve been on the island of Ometepe for about a week now and I’m so in love with it that I’m thinking that I might never leave (I’m kidding mom, I’ll definitely be leaving soon. Probably…Maybe).
Just so that I’ll follow up on that promise though, I’ve actually booked a plane ticket home. I’m now scheduled to fly to San Francisco from San Jose, Costa Rica on August 25th.
I don’t really want to think about what’s going to happen after that. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks job-searching and researching various options, one of them being going back to work on a cruise ship. I swore I’d never work on another ship again after I quit two years ago (the 24 hour partying gets really old after a while) but I’m broke and getting broker by the day and cruise work is the only way I can I think of to make a lot of money in a short period of time. It’s also a smart choice because you can sign up for short contracts (even as little as a week, although I’ll probably opt for at least two months) which means that I won’t be stuck living with my parents and working at Safeway until I have enough money to move out again. Basically I’m willing to do anything to avoid getting stuck living at home (nothing personal, mom).
But that might just end up happening. With summer winding down, the cruise season is slow right now so I’m not sure they’ll be any work available. I’m keeping my fingers crossed though…
